CME Launches Single Stock Futures for 55 Firms Including SpaceX
CME introduces cash-settled single stock futures for 55 companies, enabling 24/7 trading and shorting without borrowing. This expands leverage access and may heighten short-term volatility around earnings.
Woofun AI reports that the Chicago Mercantile Exchange officially launched American Single Stock Futures on July 27, covering 55 entities including SpaceX. The offering includes standard contracts for 100 shares and mini contracts for 10 shares, featuring cash settlement and near-24-hour trading windows. Investors can establish long, short, or hedge positions without the need to borrow underlying stock.
While the launch does not alter fundamental valuations, it creates a new pricing mechanism that may reflect pre-market and after-hours expectations more rapidly. With approximately 56% of SpaceX’s free float reportedly on loan and short positions rising, the availability of these futures facilitates easier participation for short sellers and leveraged funds ahead of the August 4 financial report.
