Apple Faces Lawsuit Over App Store Scam Causing $1.8M Losses
Three plaintiffs sue Apple for $1.8M in losses from fraudulent Sparrow Wallet app, alleging negligence in store security and misleading safety claims.
Woofun AI reports that three individuals have filed a lawsuit against Apple regarding security vulnerabilities within the App Store. The plaintiffs allege they were tricked into installing "Sparrow Wallet", a counterfeit cryptocurrency application not officially supported on iOS, resulting in combined financial losses exceeding $1.8 million. James Ramirez reported losing approximately $875,000, Christopher Ellis lost about $840,000, and Jalen Delgado suffered losses near $120,000.
The legal action accuses Apple of permitting fraudulent applications to persist while leveraging its security reputation to oppose third-party stores and sideloading. Plaintiffs are requesting a jury trial, monetary damages, and public disclosure of App Store risks. Apple stated that counterfeit apps violate its guidelines and are removed swiftly, noting no current Sparrow Wallet copies exist and over 371,000 misleading submissions were rejected in 2025.
