Gumi and SBI Launch $18.3M Crypto Fund for Bitcoin and XRP
Japanese gaming firm Gumi partners with SBI to launch a 3 billion yen fund targeting Bitcoin and major altcoins, aiming to build operational track records ahead of potential ETF approvals.
Woofun AI reports that Japanese game developer Gumi will launch a cryptocurrency fund valued at 3 billion yen, approximately $18.3 million, on Saturday in partnership with SBI Financial Services. The initiative is supported by Daiwa Securities Group and other investors, with management handled by the SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture where SBI Financial Services holds 51% and Gumi’s subsidiary gC Labs holds 49%.
The fund will primarily invest in Bitcoin and major altcoins, utilizing strategies including staking, portfolio rebalancing, and hedging. Gumi stated the objective is to connect Japanese corporate entities with the crypto market and establish an operational track record ahead of any potential lifting of bans on crypto ETFs in Japan. Gumi’s broader crypto business includes asset management services centered around XRP and portfolio management via Hinode Technologies. Its latest annual report indicates holdings of 14.13 billion yen in crypto assets as of April 30, 2026, nearly double the 7.58 billion yen held a year earlier.
