Asian Emerging Markets Index Surges 7%, Tech Gains 13% in 17-Year High
MSCI Asia Emerging Markets and Tech indices posted their largest single-day gains since 2008, driven by South Korean and Taiwanese stock rallies and eased AI spending concerns.
Woofun AI reports that Asian emerging market stock indices recorded their most significant one-day increase in over 17 years on Friday. The MSCI Asia Emerging Markets Index climbed approximately 7%, while the MSCI Asia Emerging Markets Technology Index rose more than 13%, marking their highest daily gains since late October 2008. This rally was fueled by surging equities in South Korea and Taiwan, alongside reduced investor anxiety regarding artificial intelligence capital expenditures following strong earnings reports from Microsoft and Amazon. Despite the sharp rebound, both indices remain down 5% and 14% respectively for the current month. Nomura analysts noted that Microsoft’s guidance on continued capital expenditure growth and projected positive free cash flow by fiscal year 2027 may help alleviate concerns surrounding AI infrastructure stocks.
