Bybit Secures Austrian E-Money License for EU Payments Arm
Bybit Payments GmbH obtained an e-money institution license from Austria's FMA, enabling regulated payment services and reducing reliance on third-party infrastructure.
Woofun AI reports that Bybit Payments GmbH has secured an electronic money institution license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority. This authorization establishes a regulatory foundation for introducing payment capabilities, including person-to-person transfers, merchant solutions, open banking features, and card products via Bybit.eu. The platform serves users across the European Economic Area, excluding Malta, where MiCA passporting requirements remain unmet. Bybit EU GmbH, authorized under MiCA since May 2025, will continue providing crypto custody and exchange services, while Bybit Payments GmbH handles regulated e-money products. The exchange stated this milestone may strengthen relationships with banks and enterprises while reducing dependence on third-party payment infrastructure.
