343 Million OP Tokens Enter Circulation Next Year, Supply Hits 58.3%

Woofun AI reports that the Optimism Foundation has published its budget and outlook for the fifth fiscal year, spanning May 2026 to April 2027. The foundation projects that the circulating supply of OP will rise from approximately 2.161 billion to 2.504 billion, representing 58.3% of the total supply. This increase corresponds to roughly 343 million new OP tokens entering circulation during this period. The breakdown includes 200 million tokens for ecosystem funds, 47.6 million for early core contributors, 15.3 million for investors, and 10 million for governance funds. No new tokens will originate from airdrops or Retro Funding. All allocations stem from the initial framework, with no new requests made, aiming solely to improve transparency.

Token deployment will prioritize OP mainnet growth and acquiring enterprise clients for OP Enterprise. In the previous fiscal year, the foundation spent around 150 million OP, a reduction of one-third compared to the third fiscal year. OP Enterprise launched in January 2026, securing early clients such as Bitpanda, Ink, Dunamu, and Ether.fi. Monthly transaction volume on the OP mainnet grew by over 60% during that timeframe. The governance team’s 12-month buyback plan allocates up to 50% of Superchain revenues to monthly OP purchases, with over 9 million OP already repurchased.
