Woofun AI reports that a strategic coalition led by Michael Saylor’s Strategy has formed the Bitcoin Security Consortium, uniting major industry players including Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy to address long-term quantum vulnerabilities in the Bitcoin network.
The consortium pledged an aggregate $15 million over the next three years to support developers securing the Bitcoin network against the threat of a quantum computing breakthrough, Strategy announced in a Thursday press release. Operational leadership falls to Mike Schmidt, executive director of Brink, who coordinates day-to-day efforts in a volunteer capacity. This follows a Wednesday announcement where Galaxy Digital committed up to $5 million in grants for quantum security development and established a council of quantum-advisory experts to research migration solutions.
Woofun AI data shows, expert consensus on the urgency of this threat remains fractured, creating a complex risk landscape. In November 2025, Blockstream CEO Adam Back asserted that Bitcoin faces no meaningful quantum threat for at least the next 20 to 40 years. Conversely, an April report from investment manager Bernstein warned that Bitcoin has only three to five years to prepare for a post-quantum security upgrade, highlighting the divergence in industry preparedness strategies.
BlackRock’s global head of digital assets, Robert Mitchnick, emphasized that Bitcoin core developers do "incredibly important work" and stated the firm was pleased to make "significant additional funding available to support Bitcoin’s long-term security needs." This coordinated capital injection signals a shift from theoretical debate to active infrastructure hardening, ensuring developer resources are secured regardless of the eventual timeline for quantum breakthroughs.
