Discourse around AI has never felt more asymmetric, I imagine much more so than the Internet at its infancy (I wasn’t old enough, but heard as much from friends). The discrepancy between the ones who “know” and the normies who don’t is far too big not to become a major issue down the line. Joe Rogan thinks we’re birthing a digital god, the socialists are shutting down data centers, all the while we’re curing cancer and finding solutions to the world’s most complex problems with code and data. How we, the several hundred thousands on X, interpret AI, is vastly different than the other ~6.5bn on the planet. Unfortunately, AI has a massive PR problem and it will only be solved at the application layer, or the layers that most affect one’s day to day life. If I were Dario, I’d focus much less on the “Machines of Love and Grace” angle than the “I’m just like you. And here’s why AI is good for you” angle. We pretend that AI is going to change the world in ways other than coding harnesses, but don’t have the data to back it up. So we’re falling short of the promises we made, and the distance between regular people and the insiders is growing and growing. Right now, AI is the most elitist little bubble in the world, and it’ll bite us in the ass if we don’t change that. It’s pretty obvious, but I’m not seeing any AI leader actually making progress on this front. I wonder why that’s the case.
