Interesting article from the SEC on Crypto Vaults and Lending Strategies. TLDR: 1. "Vaults are not uniform. They fall along a spectrum from programmatic allocations determined solely by immutable smart contracts, to allocations at the sole discretion of another person or group of persons." 2. "Parties involved in managing vaults [or lending strategies]", i.e. deployers/curators in charge of selecting the yield-generating activities, re-allocating assets, setting interest rates, setting loan-to-value limits, liquidation thresholds etc... "may want to analyze whether their activities implicate the federal securities laws"

@RyanWatkins_ There's a lot of alpha to be found in tracking onchain wallet movements but I completely agree that most people would be better off NOT doing it. It takes a massive amount of time, patience, labelling addresses for hours, knowledge of the space etc...

This (very interesting) article reminds me of Joseph Schumpeter's views on the trap of reasoning through aggregates. Schumpeter (1883-1950), the economist who coined "creative destruction", distrusted macro aggregates (GDP, aggregate demand, average wages, etc) as tools that smooth out the signal that actually matters, which has to be observed at the micro level instead. In simple terms: all macro indicators can flash green while micro indicators flash red. And the alpha generally is in knowing which micro signals to read. Example: if you came from another planet and looked at this chart of US GDP, you'd barely notice dozens of crashes, oil shocks, a pandemic, multiple wars all flattened into bumps on the road.

The line that resonated with me most, on tech bubbles: "Investors are right on the trajectory, wrong on the timeline." Most correctly spot world-changing tech (that part is easy: just use it). However, what they think plays out over 5 years almost always takes 20.
