How I think consumer apps will be built in the future: Most people lack taste, including a lot of designers. They don't know UX best practices or how to structure app flows. So the current "blank canvas + AI + average human" way of building apps just produces slop. The next generation of app builders will make taste a property of the system, not the user. What I think this looks like: - Good UI baked into the agent manifest, not left to the user's prompt. - Deterministic guardrails that make bad design impossible, ie hard rules on information hierarchy, not suggestions an LLM can ignore. - Excellent Design system This changes the product designer role. Less time drawing static screens, more time encoding design opinions into the app builder. I think this will be a true unlock for anyone to build world class consumer apps without needing taste at all.

There is no AI race without an energy race underneath it. UK electricity: $0.35/kWh. US: $0.16. China: $0.08. A frontier GPU cluster is a machine for converting electricity into intelligence. You can fund all the GPUs you like through the Sovereign AI Fund, but if the electrons cost 4x what your competitors pay, the economics never close. Last year we paid £1.5bn to switch off wind farms and burn gas instead, because the cables couldn’t carry the power south. Connection queues run to 15 years. None of this is physics.
