A lot of commentary on the TL on where Coinbase has messed up. I think most of it is misguided. Jesse has been taking a beating, but nobody usually gives a shit about the lead PM on leading tech companies' new product initiatives. Look at Meta and Google's long string of massive failed product initiatives; who the hell knows who ran these? Meta: - Facebook Home - Portal - Paper - Threads? Google: - Google+ - Google Wave - Buzz The reality is large incumbents are often one trick ponies, but they excel with transformative acquisitions. Meta: - Instagram - WhatsApp Google: - YouTube - DoubleClick - Android - DeepMind Coinbase has followed a measured acquisition strategy picking up pieces that were critical to the business but none have been transformative (sorry @cobie), Bridge likely one of the biggest misses. I don't trust any large company to be able to nail new products given history, but they have to be able to find the next big thing early and be willing to pay up.

In Feb 2024 YC made a call for stablecoin startups and frontrun the stablecoin meta Now they are calling for data for the real world startups, the request is spot on of DePIN projects that raised 2022-2024. We've seen pitches in all of these listed categories and led the seed for @daylightenergy. Leland is done Summer Euromaxxing, let's see how he did inQ1 and put him back to work. Booking link in first comment. Since Apr 30 Leland looked at 214. - Deal submissions fell off quickly after the first week. Leland passed 92 deals to next stage. - The guideline was not strict enough, once we calibrated that dropped by ~50% We took ~30 meetings. - The auto scheduling filled up fast and so once it was filled we relied on deck review. -3 deals we took to IC but zero secured an investment. So far it's been an interesting experiment we've connected with some great founders we wouldn't have otherwise. I think the most helpful and entertaining aspect of Leland is founders getting instant feedback. Founders seemed to appreciate the feedback both good and bad.
