CertiK Report Highlights Stablecoin Security Risks and A7A5 Regulatory Challenges in 2026
CertiK’s 2026 report cites $328M bridge losses and A7A5’s $110B volume, signaling expanded risks from technical breaches to geopolitical sanctions evasion.
Per CertiK, the stablecoin ecosystem confronts dual pressures from technical vulnerabilities and regulatory compliance in 2026. Security incidents involving cross-chain bridges have incurred losses surpassing $328 million, with the Kelp DAO wallet breach alone accounting for $291 million. This data underscores that hackers increasingly target custody systems and payment infrastructure alongside smart contracts.
Concurrently, the report examines the Russian ruble-pegged stablecoin A7A5, which has processed over $110 billion in transactions since its 2025 launch. Capturing approximately 43% of the global non-US dollar stablecoin market, A7A5 illustrates a new model for cross-border settlement networks. Despite sanctions from Europe and the United States, holder addresses continue to rise, suggesting traditional sanction regimes struggle against on-chain financial networks. CertiK concludes that stablecoin risks now encompass geopolitical factors, becoming central to global financial risk management.
