Amazon Phases Out Nova Models, Shifts Focus to EMR Initiative

Amazon is retiring flagship Nova AI models and restructuring teams to concentrate resources on the Emerging Models Research project led by Pieter Abbeel.

Woofun AI reports that Amazon is executing a strategic pivot in its artificial intelligence division, discontinuing the majority of its internal flagship models. The company is reallocating engineering talent and computing capacity away from existing text, image, and video generation tools toward high-priority initiatives.

The phase-out includes the Nova Premier and Omni models, as well as the Reel video and Canvas image generators. This restructuring follows recent layoffs in the Artificial General Intelligence division and the closure of the AGI Lab. Resources are now being directed to the "Emerging Models Research" project, led by Pieter Abbeel, which has been designated as a top priority for the year.
