Enterprise SSD Shipments Projected to Double by 2026 Amid Strong Data Center Demand
Morgan Stanley forecasts enterprise SSD shipments to hit 525EB by 2026, up 100% YoY. June data shows robust growth, though HDD supply faces capacity constraints.
Woofun AI reports that Morgan Stanley’s latest research indicates sustained strength in data center HDD and SSD demand. Total Supply Research (TSR) projects that by 2026, enterprise SSD shipments for data centers will reach 525EB, representing a 100% year-on-year increase, while nearline HDD shipments are expected to hit 1845EB, a 30.4% year-on-year rise.
June figures reveal enterprise SSD shipments to data centers totaled 46.33EB, marking a 124.5% year-on-year and 12.0% month-on-month increase. Enterprise SSD unit shipments reached 6.35 million, up 41.1% year-on-year and 8.9% month-on-month. Morgan Stanley notes that SSD volume growth will continue to outpace unit growth as high-capacity products gain share. Conversely, nearline HDD production in June was 7.03 million units, a 12.3% year-on-year increase but a 0.6% month-on-month decline. TSR forecasts nearline HDD production will reach 84.39 million units by 2026, a 12.8% year-on-year increase, though head and testing capacity may constrain this growth. The report highlights that while AI and data center capital expenditure drive storage demand, supply chain bottlenecks are expanding from end devices to critical components.
